Multimedial und medienafin entwickelte der Künstler einen besonders dynamischen Werklauf. In seinem Zentrum steht dabei bis heute immer die schillernde Figur Beuys, in der Beuys sich vom Bildhauer zum mit Christus-Referenzen provozierenden Aktionskünstler und vom Kriegsfreiwilligen zum sozialen Utopisten wandelte. Sie klebt in ihrer Überblendung von Leben und Kunst wie eine Spiegelfolie an den Werken und erschwert das kunsthistorische Bedürfnis nach Klärung durch "formal" ausgerichtete Analysen. Ob sich jedoch die Ambivalenzen und Widersprüche der Figur Beuys derart fruchtbar auflösen lassen, bleibt abzuwarten. Beuys grenz-gängerischer Versuch, durch Kunst in einem grundsätzlichen Sinne gesellschaftlich zu wirken, zielte allerdings auf nichts weniger als einen Neustart der conditio humana. In Zeiten globaler Probleme und Konflikte aktualisiert sich dieser Anspruch fast wie von selbst. Um die Positionierung von Beuys´ Werk wird immer noch gerungen und gestritten. Auch nach seinem 100.
