The expedition to Hazor in the mid-1950s under Yigal Yadin was the most important archaeological excavation undertaken by Israel in its early years of stat…ehood. It is the largest archaeological site in northern Israel, featuring an upper tell of 30 acres and a lower city of more than 175 acres. In 2005, the remains of Hazor were designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO as part of the Biblical Tels - Megiddo, Hazor, Beer Sheba. Yigael Yadin, one of the earliest archaeologists to work on the site, saw certain features as clearly being Omride; Megiddo, Gezer, and Hazor, all feature deep rock cut pits, from the base of which were rock cut tunnels leading to a well that reached the water table, as water-supply systems, which Yadin attributed to the rule of Ahab; Yadin also attributed to Ahab a citadel, measuring 25 x 21 m, with two-meter thick walls, which was erected in the western part of Hazor. However, Yadin's dating was based on the assumption that the layer connected with the gates and administration buildings were built by Solomon. The chief architetect of the excavation was Dunayevsky and his drawings decorate this book.

Soft cover. Condition: Fine. viii, 147 pages, 48 pages of plates : illustrations ; 28 cm. The excavation at Athienou, Cyprus, was conducted as a study dig by the Institute of Archaeology of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Its goal was to clarify the connections between Canaan and Cyprus in the Late Bronze-Iron Ages. This sma…ll inland site was an extremely important and rich settlement whose main strata span the 15th-12th centuries BCE. Athienou is outstanding in the variety of its finds, which testify to its close connections with the coastal centers of Cyprus and through them with the cities of the Aegean and the eastern Mediterranean. The dominant feature of the excavation was the discovery of heaps containing thousands of votive vessels. This is the largest concentration of such vessels ever found in Cyprus and a clear-cut indicator of the cultic nature of the site. Moreover, the large amounts of ore and slag found together with copper-working installations point to the site's importance as a metal-working center. This symbiosis of cult and metal industry follows a well-known pattern in Cyprus.

Hardcover. Condition: New. xxxi, 333 pages : black-and-white illustrations, folded plans ; 28 cm + 1 portfolio (12 folded plans). This volume publishes the results of the excavations conducted at Tel Megiddo by Yigael Yadin in four short seasons (1960, 1966, 1967 and 19712). The expedition's main focus was the northeastern secto…r of the mound, where excavation uncovered the remains of an extensive public structure attributed to Stratum VAIVB, which was named "Palace 6000". Additional probes were carried out in Area C in the southwestern part of the mound, intended to examine the stratigraphic connection with Gallery 629 and the cave of the spring, and Sounding 2153 in the area of the staircase outside the outer Iron Age gate. Based on the surviving documentation, the volume presents the architectural remains and ceramic assemblages uncovered in the excavation, together with the hoard of small finds (Stratum VIA) found below "Palace 6000". The author presents Yadin's conclusions as well as her own interpretation of the results of the excavation, and offers a new stratigraphic analysis of some previously published Iron Age II remains excavated by other expeditions.

Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. 438 pages. This volume presents the architecture and pottery of the Middle Bronze Age Strata XXV XXI and the Late Bronze Age Strata XXb XIXa, together with other finds from the Bronze Age (including some unstratified Early Bronze Age finds). Although fills containing Early Bronze Age potte…ry were found on the site s bedrock, the earliest architectural remains uncovered date from the MB IIA. During most of the Middle Bronze Age, from Stratum XXIV of the MB IIA to the end of the MB IIB, Yoqne am was a fortified city, as attested by its three successive fortification systems. A new era in the history of the site, during which the city was unfortified, started with the MB IIC Stratum XXI and lasted until Stratum XVI of the Iron Age II. A feature of particular interest at the site is the fact that, as at nearby Tel Qashish, the temporal divisions based on the ceramic analysis do not always conform with the stratigraphic ones.

Hardcover. Condition: New. 438 pages. This volume presents the architecture and finds of the Iron Age Strata XVIIIXI and the limited architecture and pottery of the Persian period Strata XVIII at Tel Yoqne'am. The almost uninterrupted sequence of Iron Age strata span the twelfth/eleventh centuries through the last third of the e…ighth century BCE; architectural remains include a water system that is one of the very few in the country that are securely dated to the tenth century and two superimposed defense systems. The dense stratigraphic sequence made possible a detailed analysis of the development of pottery types through the Iron Age strata. The results of this study are particularly important with regard to the current debate on the "traditional" versus the "low" chronology of the Iron Age II.

Hardcover. Condition: New. 498 pages. The eight seasons of excavation at the small site of Tel Qashish were conducted as part of the Yoqne'am Regional Project that also included the excavations at Tel Qiri and Tel Yoqne'am and a survey of the western Jezreel Valley. Remains consisting mainly of domestic structures and dating pri…ncipally from the Early Bronze Age I to the Late Bronze Age were uncovered at Tel Qashish. The present volume presents the architecture, pottery assemblages and pottery typology of the three main periods, the EB I, EB IIIII and Middle to Late Bronze Ages, with a description of the minor remains of later periods. The volume also includes overviews of the settlement history of the site in the different periods, a petrographic study of the EB IIIII pottery and discussions of special finds, such as a cylinder seal and seal impressions, decorated bones, a bead, figurines, chipped stone artifacts, human skeletal remains, shell beads, freshwater clams and land snails, and botanical and faunal remains.
