This book contains a collection of papers dealing with various aspects of the biology and aquaculture of the 'true phyllopods' as envisioned by Sars (1980). Today these members of the class Branchiopoda are grouped into four orders by Fryer (1987). They are the Anostraca, the Notostraca and the two conchostracan orders Spinicaudata and Laevicaudata. The majority of the papers included were presented at the Euphyllopod Symposium convened ar the State University of Ghent, Belgium, 9-12 August 1989, which was the first international meeting ever to be devoted exclusively to the large branchiopod crustaceans.
