Er wurde 1673 in Paris geboren und war zunächst Schüler bei seinem Vater Etienne Picart (1632-1721), dann von Benoit Audran d.Ä. und ab 1689 von Sebastien Le Clerc (1637-1714). An der Academie Royale studierte er Zeichnen. Im Jahre 1696 ging er an die Akademie in Antwerpen und 1698 nach Amsterdam, wo er als Buchillustrator tätig war. Später wieder in Paris war er vor allem als Stecher tätig. Als er sich 1711 in Amsterdam niederließ, hatte er bereits einen ausgezeichneten Ruf als Kupferstecher und Graveur. Berühmt waren seine detailgetreuen Stiche nach Zeichnungen berühmter Maler. Für seinen eigenen Bild-Kompositionen war u.a. Antoine Coypel sein Vorbild. Zu seinen Schülern gehörte auch Jacob van der Schley (1715-1779). Picart hinterließ ein umfangreiches Oeuvre mit ca. 1300 Blättern. Er starb als wohlhabender Mann 1733 in Amsterdam. || Bernard Picart was a French engraver and book illustrator. Título y topografía redactada en italiano puesto que el mapa se publicó en Venecia en el año 1785 por Antonio Zatta (1722 - 1804). El autor fue un cartógrafo, grabador y editor veneciano del siglo XVIII. Es conocido por su Atlante Novissimo (1775-1785), una colección de mapas detallados que reflejaban los avances geográficos de la época. Su cartografía combinaba precisión científica con un estilo artístico refinado, característico de la tradición veneciana. Publicó mapas de América, Europa y Asia, incorporando nuevas exploraciones y divisiones políticas. Su trabajo contribuyó a la cartografía ilustrada del siglo XVIII. El mapa se extiende desde el sur del Golfo de México hasta Tierra de Fuego. El mapa divide las zonas conforme los virreinatos que había en aquella época. Además, se mencionan las diferentes localidades del continente, entre ellas podemos ver Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Santiago, Concepción, Lima Guayaquil, Quito, Potosí, Asunción, Popayán, Caracas, Cali, Bogotá y Mérida.
