Jhs. zu rekonstruieren. Dabei ist der Roman abgesehen von vier Fragmenten nur in einer einzige…n Handschrift vom Anfang des 16. Jhs., dem "Ambraser Heldenbuch", annähernd vollständig überliefert. Nur dieser von Hans Ried im Auftrag Kaiser Maximilians I. abgefasste Text kann die Grundlage einer verlässlichen Studienausgabe darstellen. Die vorliegende Studienausgabe mit philologischem Kommentar und moderner neuhochdeutscher Übersetzung bietet nicht nur den Ambraser Text, sondern sämtliche Überlieferungszeugen des ersten deutschsprachigen Artusromans im Paralleldruck und verzichtet aufgrund ihrer Handschriftennähe dabei weitgehend auf Konjekturen. Damit ist diese verbesserte Neuauflage der textgeschichtlichen Edition von 2017 bestens für den akademischen Unterricht geeignet, der die aktuellen textphilologischen und kulturwissenschaftlichen Diskussionen der mediävistischen Literaturwissenschaft zum Ereck berücksichtigen möchte.
