Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book analyzes the work of Jean-François Millet, a French painter best known for his depictions of rural life. The author traces Millet's artistic development from his early training in Paris to his mature period at Barbizon, where he became a leading figure in the Barbizon School. The book examines Millet's techniques, his choice of subject matter, and his relationship to the social and intellectual currents of his time. It also explores the influence of earlier masters such as Poussin and Rembrandt on Millet's work, and discusses the ways in which Millet's paintings reflect the changing social and economic conditions of 19th-century France. Through a close examination of Millet's paintings and drawings, the book illuminates the artist's profound understanding of the human condition and his deep empathy for the working class. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
