Edition originale rare de cette importante thèse inspirée par Barthez et présidée par Trousseau, deux grands spécialistes de la diphtérie à cette époque. L'auteur, originaire de Lavenay (Sarthe) était interne des hôpitaux de Paris. Il étudie les différentes formes de diphtérie avec leur traitement, ainsi que les complications. Il décrit et illustre un instrument (pince dilatatrice) qu'il imagina pour faciliter la trachéotomie et qu'il fit fabriquer (pp. 29-30). Cet instrument fut complètement adopté par Barthez et fut approuvé par Trousseau. Garnier donne ensuite le résumé de 45 observations sélectionnées pour leur intérêt, en y apportant des réflexions.…
