Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a novel and highly controversial perspective on Emperor Joseph II of Austria and his reign, drawing surprising and bold parallels between him and Spain's King Phillip II. As a groundbreaking analysis of an often-romanticized monarch, the author reframes the common perception of Joseph II as a selfless reformer or a cruel despot. Instead, the author argues that Joseph II's supposed reforms were little more than politically-motivated tactics, akin to Phillip II's efforts to maintain control over his vast empire. Throughout the book, the author weaves together historical events with incisive commentary, demonstrating how Joseph II's desire for centralized authority led him into conflict with the very people he claimed to represent. Beyond challenging the prevailing historical view of Joseph II, this book offers a fascinating exploration of the broader themes of political power, absolutism, and the struggle between personal convictions and the demands of governance. By examining the complex dynamics at play during this period of European history, the author provides a unique and valuable contribution to our understanding of the pitfalls and complexities of absolute rule. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu.
