Das Erbrecht und VI. Das Wechselrecht. -- Albert Affolter war ein bedeutender Schweizer Jurist, freisinniger Politiker (FDP) und langjähriger Bundesrichter. Geboren am 11. August 1856 in Solothurn, studierte Affolter Rechtswissenschaften in Leipzig, Heidelberg, Basel und Zürich. Nach seiner Promotion schlug er eine steile juristische und politische Laufbahn in seinem Heimatkanton ein. Bereits von 1881 bis 1884 amtierte er als Oberrichter in Solothurn. Im Anschluss wurde er in den Regierungsrat des Kantons Solothurn gewählt, dem er von 1884 bis 1892 angehörte. In dieser Funktion als Regierungsrat leitete er abwechselnd das Justiz-, das Innere, das Polizei- und das Erziehungsdepartement und zeichnete in dieser Zeit auch für die Leitung der juristischen Kurse verantwortlich. Neben seiner politischen Tätigkeit war er von 1881 bis 1884 sowie von 1892 bis 1905 Mitglied des Solothurner Kantonsrats und arbeitete zwischen 1892 und 1904 als selbstständiger Anwalt. Affolter prägte die solothurnische Rechtsgeschichte nachhaltig, indem er die Entwürfe zur Strafprozessordnung von 1885 sowie zur Revision des solothurnischen Zivilgesetzbuchs und der Zivilprozessordnung von 1891 verfasste. Zudem trat er als Autor zahlreicher juristischer Fachpublikationen hervor. Im Jahr 1904 erreichte seine Karriere ihren Höhepunkt mit der Wahl zum Bundesrichter am Schweizerischen Bundesgericht in Lausanne, ein Amt, das er bis 1930 ausführte. Albert Affolter verstarb am 21.
