Märlligt därför att GAN i så hög grad intresserade sig för den radikala balettkonsten och gjorde banbrytande nya förslag till dekor och kostymer för olika balettuppsättningar. Detta intresse för baletten delade han med Léger, den store franske kubisten, som GAN satte högre än någon annan fransk konstnär. Gösta Nystroems Ishavsbalett hade kunnat bli en uppsättning i klass med Légers berömda baletter - med en balettdekor av GAN:skt märke. Tyvärr tilläts ej de båda nyskapande svenska genierna i 20-talets Paris att genomföra sitt projekt. Men tvärs genom de mer än 60 åren lyser GAN:s skisser till /shavsbaletten med oförminskad kraft, skönhet och skaparglädje". - - - (Katalog / Malmö konsthall nr 122.).

Journalisten och konstskribenten Nils Lindgren (1901-1986) utgav 1949 en monografi över GAN, vars tillkomst skildras i denna bok. Den undvek, delvis efter instruktioner från GAN, det känsliga ämnet homosexualitet, varför Lindgrens stora insatser länge varit förbisedda inon GAN-forskningen.
