CÉSAR MUÑOZ ARCONADA (Astudillo, Palencia, 1898 Moscú, 1964) es uno de los escritores más representativos de la denominada Generación del 27, entendida ésta según los amplios márgenes de la última crítica literaria. Su firma apareció en las más importantes revistas de la joven literatura… de la época. Fruto de estas labores son En torno a Debussy (1926), Urbe (1928) y Vida de Greta Garbo (1929). El salto estético e ideológico hacia posturas más comprometidas comienza a vislumbrarse en La turbina (1930) y Tres cómicos del cine (1931) y se afirma en sus novelas posteriores: Los pobres contra los ricos (1933) y Reparto de tierras (1934). En Tres cómicos del cine se transparenta, por un lado, el decidido interés por el género biográfico manifestado por los escritores más significativos de la vanguardia española y, por el otro, la enorme fascinación por el mundo del cine, signo definitorio de toda la época anterior a la guerra civil. En sus esbozos de tres figuras destacadas de ese mundo (Charlot, Clara Bow y Harold Lloyd), Arconada ofrece una deslumbrante muestra de su talento creador, llevando el género de la biografía vanguardista a unos extremos de insólita expresividad. Esta edición de completa con un amplio apéndice de escritos sueltos de Arconada relacionados con el cine así como una bibliografía de trabajos críticos sobre diversos aspectos de la relación entre el escritor y el mundo del cine. NIGEL DENNIS es catedrático de literatura española en la Universidad de St Andrews, Reino Unido, y autor de numerosos trabajos sobre los escritores más destacados del primer tercio del siglo XX. FRANCISCO SOGUERO se doctoró por la Universidad de Deusto con una tesis sobre la biografía vanguardista, centrada en la obra de Antonio Espina, Benjamín Jarnés y César Arconada.
