Brian G. Richmond

Brian Richmond, PhD, is the co-editor of two books and author of over 80 articles in leading scientific journals including cover articles in Nature and Science. His work pioneering new statistical and analytical approaches, in combination with ground-breaking discoveries in the field, earned him the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Award for Research Excellence in 2015, as well as dozens of awards from the National Science Foundation and other agencies. He has appeared on NOVA, BBC, National Geographic, History Channel, and other media including NPR, to discuss his research or provide expert commentary.

Dr. Richmond’s work creating and building the WeWork’s People Analytics team led to a 2018 Excellence Award for his positive impact on the company. He currently leads data science at the early-stage startup Aura Health, where he created and manages data infrastructure and built the company’s machine learning systems, to realize their mission to improve the world’s mental health and well-being.

Dr. Richmond holds a BA in biology and history from Rice University in Houston, Texas, and an MA and doctorate in Anthropological Sciences from Stony Brook University, New York. He currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he loves spending time with his wife and sons, running and hiking the local nature trails, and volunteering his time doing data analysis for good causes.
