Edward J. M. Colbert

Dr. Colbert is currently a civilian researcher at the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) in Adelphi, Maryland, where he conducts novel security research on methods for defending networks and control systems. Before working at ARL, he performed telecommunications research as a Department of Defense civilian, developing and managing specialized security programs. Prior to that, he performed advanced telecommunications research for Verizon and the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, and astrophysical research for the Johns Hopkins University, the Catholic University of America, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, the University of Maryland, and the Space Telescope Science Institute.

Dr. Colbert received the Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Illinois (1987), the Master of Science in Physics from the University of Illinois (1988), the Master of Science in Astronomy from the University of Maryland (1993), and the PhD in Astronomy from the University of Maryland (1997). Dr. Colbert holds a research professorship at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, and has held a number of adjunct teaching positions at universities in the Baltimore and Washington DC area. He has a strong background in technical research in academic, industrial, and government settings.
