Condition: Good. First Edition. Martyrs to hypochondria and general seediness, J and his friends George and Harris decide that a jaunt up the Thames would suit them to a 'T'. But when they set off, they can hardly predict the troubles that lie ahead with tow-ropes, unreliable weather-forecasts and tins of pineapple chunks. Marty…rs to hypochondria and general seediness, J. and his friends George and Harris decide that a jaunt up the Thames would suit them to a 'T'. But when they set off, they can hardly predict the troubles that lie ahead with tow-ropes, unreliable weather-forecasts and tins of pineapple chunks - not to mention the devastation left in the wake of J.'s small fox-terrier Montmorency. Three Men in a Boat was an instant success when it appeared in 1889, and proved so popular that Jerome reunited his now older - but not necessarily wiser - heroes in Three Men on the Bummel, for a picaresque bicycle tour of Germany. With their benign escapism, authorial discursions and wonderful evocation of the late-Victorian 'clerking classes', both novels hilariously capture the spirit of their age.; Levering p.o.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. This is the first Folio Society edition of the classic comedy Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog!) by the English writer Jerome K. Jerome (1859 - 1927). It is a hilarious account of a two-week boating holiday on the Thames. Much of it is tru…e; Jerome intended it to be a proper travel book but events changed that. The only fictional character is the dog. This copy is 191 pages, with pen and ink illustrations by the English artist Ian Ribbons. It comes in a hard slipcase, which is in perfect condition. The cover is fabric and the spine has faded, just from sitting on a shelf for so many years. It appears that its original owner read the first chapter and did not finish it. The interior condition is perfect. Ian Ribbons (illustrator).
