Internally slightly browned but generally fine with a small stain at the foreedge of the last two pages. Endpapers chipped and slightly loose. 8 pages, each containing six or seven beautifully executed seals of states or United States territories. Also includes a seal for the District of Columbia. Versos are blank. Not included among the current continental 48 states are Oklahoma, Arizona, and Washington. There is one seal for Dakota Territory. Two rubber stamps and an ownership signature, dated 1877, for "W. J. McPherson, Painter, Decorator, and Stained Glass Manufacturer, 440 Tremont St., Boston." An additional note on the title page states: "The Arms of the States of the Union have been prepared with the assistance of Mr. H. Mitchell, the well known Heraldic Designer and Seal Engraver of Boston. The arms of the Thirteen Original States are in accordance with the paintings deposited in Independence Hall, Philadelphia, by the States. For the other Arms, the material was supplied by the Executive authorities of the various States.".…
