Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This comprehensive book covers the environmental issues concerning silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Following an introduction to the history, properties and applications, the environmental concerns of AgNPs is discussed. In the second chapter, the separation, characterization and quantification of AgNPs in environment samples are described in detail. In the remaining parts of the book, the authors focus on the environmental processes and effects of AgNPs, with chapters on the pathway into environment, fate and transport, toxicological effects and mechanisms, as well as the environmental bioeffects and safety-assessment of AgNPs in the environment. This book is designed to describe current understanding of the environmental aspects of AgNPs. It provides a valuable resource to students and researchers in environmental science and technology, nanotechnology, toxicology, materials science and ecology; as well as to professionals involved in the production and consumption of AgNPs in various areas including catalysis, food products, textiles/fabrics, and medical products and devices.Jingfu Liu and Guibin Jiang are professors at State Key Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology, Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Biofouling, in water systems such as membrane filtration, results in energy loss, potential contamination and decreases in process performance; and is one of the challenges in development of new technologies in this field. The phenomenon of biofouling is associated with the existence, properties and activity of biofilm. Biofilm an elaborate surface-associated microbial community, bound together by a slimy self-secreted matrix of protective and adhesive substances is likely to form wherever there is water, a supporting surface and available nutrients. Nanoparticles are collections, in aggregate, of atoms in the range of 1-100 nm with unique structure and properties. Which are used in increasing numbers of applications. Silver nanoparticles provide effective growth inhibition of various microorganisms in suspensions and on solid mediums. This study found that molecularly caped silver nanoparticles can, in addition to planktonic inactivation, prevent the formation of biofilm as well. The prevention was not by changing the properties of the surface or the environmental conditions as performed by other novel prevention approaches, but by interrupting the bacterial cells. 92 pp. Englisch.
