This comprehensive book covers the environmental issues concerning silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Following an introduction to the history, properties and applications, the environmental concerns of AgNPs is discussed. In the second chapter, the separation, characterization and quantification of AgNPs in environment samples are described in detail. In the remaining parts of the book, the authors focus on the environmental processes and effects of AgNPs, with chapters on the pathway into environment, fate and transport, toxicological effects and mechanisms, as well as the environmental bioeffects and safety-assessment of AgNPs in the environment.
This book is designed to describe current understanding of the environmental aspects of AgNPs. It provides a valuable resource to students and researchers in environmental science and technology, nanotechnology, toxicology, materials science and ecology; as well as to professionals involved in the production and consumption of AgNPs in various areas including catalysis, food products, textiles/fabrics, and medical products and devices.
Jingfu Liu and Guibin Jiang are professors at State Key Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology, Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Jingfu Liu received his B.Sc. in chemistry from Nanchang University, China in 1986, and his Ph.D. from the Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2002. Dr. Liu finished his postdoctoral research in Lund University (Sweden) in 2006, and joined the State Key Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology, Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES), Chinese Academy of Sciences, as a full professor with the “100 Talents Project of Chinese Academy of Sciences”. Prof. Liu’s major research interests involve the environmental analysis, as well as environmental processes and effects of persistent toxic substances, including emerging contaminants such as engineered nanomaterials. He is the author and co-author of over 170 peer-reviewed original research papers and invited reviews. He was awarded the second prize of The State Natural Science Award of China (2011), the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2010), 100 Talents Project of Chinese Academy of Sciences (2006), 100 Excellent Doctoral Dissertations of China (2004), special prize of Presidential Scholarship of Chinese Academy of Sciences (2002), and New Star of Science and Technology of Beijing (1996).
Guibin Jiang received his B.Sc. in chemistry from Shandong University, China in 1981, and his Ph.D. from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991. He completed his research work at National Research Council of Canada and University of Belgium during 1989-1991 and 1994-1996 as visiting scholar and postdoctoral fellow. He is currently a professor and director-general of the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Since 2006, he has been appointed as the Associate Editor of the Journal of Environmental Sciences & Technology published by the American Chemical Society. His research mainly focuses onenvironmental analytical chemistry and toxicology of persistent toxic substances. He has published more than 500 papers in peer-reviewed international scientific journals, and given more than 380 lectures including plenary and keynote ones at international and national meetings. Prof. Jiang was honored with the prestigious Chang Jiang Scholars Achievement Award in 2007 and the Agilent Thought Leader Award in 2013. He was elected as the member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the fellow of the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in 2009 and 2012, respectively.
