Condition: GOOD. First printing. Second novel (third book) by this Southern writer. Set in the Carolina piedmont in 1897, the year plans are launched to bring a cotton mill to backwater Greenway. Ex-library with the usual markings, overall good condition in a very good unmarked dustjacket. A hard-to-find early book by a writer who is not nearly as appreciated as her writing merits.

Dustjacket price-clipped, with some light shelfwear, creasing, and a tiny hole at rear flap fold; Near Fine. Betts' second novel, with a setting similar to her own North Carolina piedmont hometown; the fictional family navigates an incoming mill in 1897. The novel earned the Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Fiction. [82482].
