CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Both volumes are fine. With clear mylar wrappers. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: Robert Stuart was long associated with the early fur trade of North America, having been part of Astor's efforts to establish trade in the Pacific Northwest. Of his return from Astoria overland, Stuart discovered the South Pass; whose narrative was previously published (NY,1935). The South Pass was later rediscovered by the mountain man and it became the vital overland migration pass through the Rockies. These published letters document the period of his life while manager of the American Fur Company's Northern Department headquartered on Mackinac Island, Michigan and his later life in Detroit Michigan. Very important material for documenting the trade in the Great Lakes region. LIMITED TO 500 SETS - VERY SCARCE AND IN EXCELLENT COLLECTOR'S CONDITION.
