Vaughan made Michigan an important center of medical education, assembling an outstanding faculty distinguished for teaching as well as for internationally recognized research. His lifetime speciality was microbiologyin relation to public health and epidemic control. A founder of the National Board of Medical Examiners and a past president of the American Medical Association, he was one of the principal architects of the modern medical educational and research system that is still in place to this day. One of his major achievements was to help stem the tide of typhoid epidemics that swept through army camps during the Spanish-American War of 1898. The book inquestion outlines Vaughan's ideas about the pathological analysis of saliva, urine, pancreatic juice and blood. Bound in original brown buckram boards with gold lettering to spine.
