The first edition of this scarce work.An anonymously written study on the hand.This work approaches the hand phrenologically, looking at how the appearance of one's hand can give hints on their personality.Illustrated with a frontispiece, and three plates.Collated, complete.Phrenology is a pseudoscience, involving the measurement of bumps on the skull to predict mental and personality traits. The science was developed by Franz Joseph Gall in 1796, and was popular throughout the nineteenth century, in particular during the first half. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Fading to the spine and extremities of the boards. A small amount of loss and locking to the head and tail of the spine. A few light marks to the cloth. Minor bumping to the extremities. Hinges are starting but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with scattered spots. Good. book.
