Those who have never been to the county avoid it for two reasons. They are afraid that it is overcrowded; they are afraid that it has been overpraised. They are wrong on both counts. There is too much of it for it ever to be overcrowded. Its scenery is too varied and our ordinary vocabulary too limited to allow of over-praise. El hijo de un Bristolian rector , nació en Birmingham , pero se crió en Tansley , Derbyshire , donde su familia se mudó poco después. Fue educado en el Colegio Denstone , Staffordshire . Después de graduarse en Inglés Literatura en Christ Church, Oxford , y luego a enseñar en Rossall , Sherborne y Tonbridge , Mais tarde trabajó para el National Press en Fleet Street.
