This book was written at the request of Major General L.R. Groves, United States Army, and the publication was authorized in August of 1945. The author, H.D. Smyth was the Chairman of the Department of Physics of Princeton University and the consultant to the Manhattan District U.S. Corps of Engineers. Solid "very-good-plus" example of a very important 20th century publication, commonly referred to as "The Smyth Report." It is the first published account of the development of the atomic bomb. It was published on Aug. 12, 1945, just six days after the bombing of Hiroshima. The preface is dated July 1, 1945. Totals 182 pp. Reduced from $275.
