Sie greift die Aspekte von tyrannischer und idealer Herrschaft im Mittelalter auf und stellt zudem Bezüge zu zwei im zwölften Jahrhundert relevanten Persönlichkeiten her. Friedrich I. ¿Barbarossä wurde 1122 geboren und ertrank 1190. Ab 1152 bis zu seinem Tod regierte er als deutscher König, ab 1155 als Kaiser. Sein Vetter Heinrich der Löwe lebte zwischen 1129/30 und 1195 und war, bis zur Aberkennung seiner Reichslehen durch die Gelnhäuser Urkunde am 13. April 1180 Herzog von Bayern und Sachsen.Die Fragestellung greift die eigens festgestellte Beobachtung auf, dass in der Chronik des Bischofs Otto von Freising, die seinem Neffen Friedrich I. gewidmet war, wider Erwarten keine negative Darstellung von Barbarossas verfeindetem Vetter Heinrich aufzufinden war. Aus dieser überraschenden Erkenntnis hat sich nach einem Sprechstundenbesuch bei der Dozentin die Idee ergeben, als zusätzliche Quelle die Gelnhäuser Urkunde aus dem Jahr 1180 heranzuziehen, deren Narratio gemäß einem Lexikonartikel kompakt über Heinrichs Verlust seiner Herzogtümer informiere. Daraus folgend könne man laut Dozentin die Darstellung beider Männer in den jeweiligen Quellen unter den Gesichtspunkten von Tyrannei und Idealherrschaft vergleichen. Eine von mir für möglich gehaltene Erkenntnis war, dass Heinrich tyrannische Züge aufweisen könnte, da er sich ¿lange Zeit so [verhalten habe], als sei er der oberste Herrscher in Sachsen¿. Darüber hinaus stützt die Historikerin Werthschulte meine These: ¿Heinrich der Löwe überschätzte seine eigene Macht, umging die Regeln der Gesellschaft so lange es ging¿.
