First edition of this study as it appeared in Volume XII (May 1909) of the "Proceedings of the Davenport Academy of Sciences" -…- with choice autograph addition: Tipped to the blank leaf facing the first text page is an Autograph Letter Signed from Starr, 1p, 5¼" X 8 3/4", Seattle, WA, 10 August 1931. Addressed to Mary B. Day (1883-1959, librarian at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry). Very good. On Starr's personal letterhead, he chats with a fellow bookplate collector: "I have been down at the University of Oregon teaching for six weeks in their Summer Session. They have a collection of bookplates and in it I saw an old one of yours -- with Egyptian and U. of C. associations. Please send me one of these. The only one of yours I have is a fireplace with a shelf of books above it. Of course you may have still others. If so, may I not receive?" Boldly penned and signed in full. Starr (1858-1933) was a popular anthropologist and educator who began at the University of Chicago in 1891 and taught there for 31 years. Signed.
