The book is written in English, though it has a front cover, half title page and title page written in Danish; there is also a title page written in English. From the Preface: The purpose of the present volume is, in the first place, as an introduction, to continue the conclusions, which we are able to draw from the mode of life, the customs and usages of the Eskimo mentioned in the former volume, adding one apparently safe inference from their language, concerning their homestead before their dispersion.
