First Edition
8°. VII, 90+90 pages Original black cloth with title to spine (no jacket) First edition, volume VII of the posthumous works, parallel German and English text. The German text is full of errors (typos, wrong punctuation, obvious misunderstandings etc.). This copy had been sent to a German scholar by the editor Siegfried Unseld (card of the Suhrkamp-Verlag enclosed) apparently to prepare a German edition. The German part has corrections in pencil throughout. - Minor traces of use, only the fore-edge with very light foxing, else clean and fine - interesting document for the reception of Wittgenstein s late work in Germany.

Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 300 numbered copies signed by the artist. Edited by G.E.M. Anscombe and G.H. von Wright; translated by Anscombe and Denis Paul; introduction by Arthur Danto; with 12 relief prints by Mel Bochner. Hardcover, bound in cloth with slipcase. Spine fading to the book, else fine. Stains and fading to the slipcase.
Condition: Fine in near fine slipcase. Majestic Arion Press limited edition of Wittgenstein's last work, illuminated with twelve prints by Mel Bochner. Bilingual edition of Wittgenstein's last writings, on the intricate difficulty of knowing that one knows things. Compiled and published posthumously, in the original German with facing text in the standard English translation of Denis Paul and G.E.M. Anscombe. Bochner's twelve planographic prints build on his earlier "Wittgenstein Illustrations," a series of drawings begun in 1971 and revisited for this project, mirroring "the constant circling and doubling-back of Wittgenstein's approach to philosophy." A stunning copy of this beautiful edition. 14.5'' x 13''. Original grey cloth over boards with pale blue-grey cloth insets on spine and covers, with titling in red and black. Pictorial endpapers. In original gray cloth slipcase. Publisher's prospectus laid in. Limited edition of 300 copies. A touch of fraying to edges of slipcase.
