Examples of topics are railroad, pile drivers, locks of canals, perforating machine, watch making, tube making machine, etc. 1924 pages with engravings of engineers and inventors with engraved illustrations of their machines. Bound in half leather over pebbled cloth. Spine lettering and cover illustration stamped in gilt. Hinges unbroken and sound. Both volumes very good plus. A very handsome set.

Both volumes illustrated with numerous in-text and full-page engravings: diagrams of steam engines, trains, gears, mills, architecture, and other aspects of industrialization. The title page states four thousand engravings on wood. First published in 1850, these are early reprints of Appleton's informative and copious engineering references. Two hinges neatly repaired, some foxing to the boards and the versos of the endpapers.
