Dark green boards, spine titled in gilt. Slight use else very good in like dust-wrapper. John Tickner was a well-known sporting cartoonist who developed a keen following of readers over many years. He started as a journalist before the war, joining the army in 1939. During the war, "he drew cartoons of his comrades training, off duty and later at war, when he was commissioned and seconded to the King's African Rifles and fought with them in Burma. Some of these .cartoons were published in service magazines at the time but are now published in a book for the first time. His account of his wartime experiences is a delight. .In 1950 and home again, he began writing and illustrating a highly successful series of humorous books on horses, dogs and sporting and rural life; the first being Tickner's Light Horse [followed by Ticker's Dog Licence, Tickner's Showpiece and many others]. In the 1970's he began his weekly cartoons for Horse and Hound which [became] something of an institution among its readers." A list of Tickner's books is included. The ISBN printed within the book is incorrect. The correct ISBN, as printed on the dust-wrapper is 0948253568. .

ALL UK PARCELS SENT TRACKED! ALL OVERSEAS PARCELS SENT AIRMAIL, TRACKED! (S/hand, Hardcover, 1987). 1987 1st edition. 8vo (157 x 241mm). Pp206. B/w photographs, illustrations, foreword by Phil Drabble. Green cloth, spine titled in gilt. Top edge dusty else good-plus in dust-wrapper. A collection of John Moore's writing on country sports selected from his 40 books and his weekly articles in the Birmingham Mail. Compiled by his sister Daphne Moore with an introduction by Phil Drabble. "Some of Moore's finest writing encompassed angling, shooting, hunting and horses; his sister, Daphne Moore, has drawn together this collection of his writing on country sports. Although Moore regarded these sports as an integral part of an Englishman's love of the countryside he was also deeply interested in conservation long before it became fashionable and this is apparent in his writing. Daphne Moore introduces the anthology with a memoir of her brother and her notes bring special insights into his development as a writer. Writing in The Times when John Moore died in 1967, Sir Compton Mackenzie compared him with Gilbert White, Jefferies and Cobbett for like them he could capture in his writing the smell of river, field, hedgerow and copse. Sport and the English Countryside will be enjoyed by all those who share his passionate belief in the need to maintain the traditions of rural England in the modern world." .
