Desde peque o vivi acontecimientos tr gicos: a los tres meses de edad, su padre muri de un disparo accidental de su propia escopeta en su presencia.Hacia 1900 Quiroga se fue a Par s tras recibir la herencia de su padre. Al volver, fund con sus amigos Federico Ferrando, Alberto Brignole, Julio Jaureche, Fern ndez Salda a, Jos Hasda y Asdr bal Delgado, el Consistorio del Gay Saber, un laboratorio literario donde ensayaron nuevas formas de expresi n.Durante 1917, Quiroga vivi con sus hijos en un s tano de la avenida Canning, alternando su trabajo como diplom tico y la escritura de relatos publicados en revistas. La mayor a de estos fueron recogidos en libros, el primero de los cuales fue Cuentos de amor de locura y de muerte (sic, t tulo sin coma), que tuvo gran xito de p blico y de cr tica. Al a o siguiente apareci Cuentos de la selva, colecci n de relatos infantiles protagonizados por animales y ambientados en la selva. Quiroga dedic este libro a sus hijos, que lo acompa aron durante ese per odo de pobreza.A partir de 1932 Quiroga vivi en Misiones con Mar a Elena y su tercera hija. Por entonces le diagnosticaron hipertrofia de pr stata. Agravada su dolencia, Quiroga viaj a Buenos Aires y all descubrieron que ten a un c ncer de pr stata avanzado.
