Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. This collection presents finest of Rory Kilalea's work: the plays 'Colours' and 'The Diary of David and Ruth', as well as three outstanding short stories. 'Colours' is set in a Zimbabwean graveyard and is a powerful monologue by a woman of her memories, of love's highlights and losses, of the realities of being mixed-race and of the ravages of AIDS/HIV. 'The Diary of Ruth and David' has won a number of international awards and is a two-hander primarily set during the guerilla war that ended white rule in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe. David is a sensitive and idealistic young white soldier and his girlfriend Ruth a naive and privileged white girl. Three short stories about Zimbabwe round out the collection: The 'Missing Cow', 'Zimbabwe Boy' and 'That's the Way it Is'. 'That's the Way it Is' is a droll account of filming in Africa. 'The Missing Cow' is a sinister tale set during the transition to black rule and 'Zimbabwe Boy' a touching sexual tale of an older white man and young black man. This collection presents finest of Rory Kilalea's work: the plays 'Colours' and 'The Diary of David and Ruth', as well as three outstanding short stories. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. A young teenager enlisted into the Polish Army in 1938. Deported to the Soviet Union and imprisoned in a Siberian prison camp, this audacious soldier became reunited with his compatriots in Scotland where he trained as a paratrooper and took part in the fated WW2 Operation Market Garden, Arnhem in 1944.Fifty years later, then a patient in hospital, the soldier recounted his lifes experience to my father in the next bed, who had the forethought to record their conversation onto a Dictaphone machine. My fathers empathetic nature and harrowing childhood experiences of seeing HMS Foylebank destroyed by German bomber planes on his way to school in 1940 led to a unique and unlikely friendship. The discovery of these recordings in 2020 inspired The Polish Voice, a fully researched historical record of both mens lives, a tribute to them, reminding us of the importance to listen to one another and the legacy of a recorded voice. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. "Realise, then," said the hog, "your unfathomableness with everything - your organic unfathomableness." With that, the sty fell silent. So begins this capering odyssey for hog and human, weaving a way through different dimensions on a mysterious quest. Leading to cell-like empyreans, the enigmatic I'-lak, Consumer Megamagnet, and otherworldly others, the journey could at first seem a wanton jungle of metaphor. Yet as the tale unfolds, readers may be led to 'unfoldings' of their own - to find themselves on a uniquely personal ride at the crux of the universal. This cosmic Gulliver's Travels or impish Book of the Dead is funny and unpredictable, with a challenging narrative that supports integral learning. Subtly potent, riddled with reflections of the psychological, quantal and ecological, the book variously explores the dynamics of the 'wirings' under the worldly boards. To the rooter for truth, through whatever domains one might be navigating, the hog may prove itself an invaluable companion. Ultimately it is up to the reader. Whatever way you take The Hog's Wholey Wash - spoof or multi-level cryptograph; annoyance, bracer or salve - there are always other ways it can be taken. It's time to find your inner 'trotter' and take a journey through the known and unknown. "Realise then," said the hog, "your unfathomableness with everything - your organic unfathomableness". With that, the sty fell silent. So begins this capering odyssey for hog and human (along with a cast of most unusual life-forms) on a phenomenal and phenomenological ride through the cosmos. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. What happens when the very same system designed to protect children fails? Thats exactly what is happening right now in the UK family courts in cases of Parental Alienation, a form of post-divorce abuse. Cafcass define Parental Alienation as when a childs resistance or hostility towards one parent is not justified and is the result of psychological manipulation by the other parent; yet experts, therapists and social workers are not trained to assess or deal with cases involving Parental Alienation. I spent years making my case to judges, experts and lawyers, all of whom failed to agree on what was actually happening between my ex-wife, my kids and myself. At the time it seemed like I was constantly trying to prove a negative, to find a new direction to reach my kids, and while all were promising, all ended in expensive dead ends as my ex-wife pursued her agenda. If I had to sum up the experience of trying to prove Parental Alienation in the courts, I would describe it as being trapped in the backseat of a car while it crashes in slow motion. The system is not fit for purpose. The family courts are slow and busy, burdened by the backlog of cases. Once you do get a hearing, they are often set months away and even then, traditional safeguarding assessments fail to detect Parental Alienation. The longer the child is away from a parent, the harder it is to stop the alienation, and the longer the issue remains unaddressed, the risk of the children suffering mental health and behavioural problems increases. Alienated parents also often display signs of post-traumatic stress: paranoia, anxiety and in some cases are suicidal. It is my hope that this book will not only draw attention to the potential injustice in cases of Parental Alienation and the need for meaningful reform to prevent further irreparable damage, but that it will help a parent going through a family separation spot signs before its too late. About the author: The author is a successful businessman, loving father and victim of parental alienation. The author has used a ghost writer to validate his story. The characters have been anonymised to both protect their privacy and lift the veil on the inner workings of the family court, which the author believes is in the public interest of protecting children from harm.
