Brief account of this cavalry unit by its French-born & educated leader, naturalized in San Antonio in 1855; the unit patrolled Texas during the war, seeing action in Louisiana during the battles of Mansfield and Pleasant Hill in the defeat of the Federal Red… River campaign of 1864. Contextual introduction by Palmer Bradley, a Houston lawyer and amateur historian. Reprint of an exceedingly scarce Confederate pamphlet first published in Austin in 1884, the inaugural publication of the Waco Village Press, number 138 of only 300 printed; regrettably, a bit difficult to read. Nevins (I, p. 80) calls it "A too-brief summary of a unit that merits more study". Slender paperback in plain 'onionskin' jacket, in a custom-built drop-spine (clamshell) case, as pictured. Minor edgewear to booklet, jacket with some creases & chips, case shows minor wear. Text clean; [8], 26 pages + colophon. Size: 5¾" by 9".
