Traduzione e adattamento francese (la prima edizione di questa versione risale al 1864) di Der schweizerische Robinson del Wyss, la più celebre delle robinsonades, il fecondissimo filone di imitazioni del capolavoro di Defoe. L'opera, composta da un pastore evangelico svizzero a scopo di edificazione e svago per i suoi bambini, fu pubblicata per la prima volta nel 1812. L'opera fu innumerevoli volte ristampata e tradotta in moltissime lingue e fu uno dei libri preferiti di Verne, che la amava a tal punto da scriverne un seguito, Seconde Patrie. P. J. Stahl è lo pseudonimo del grande editore Pierre Jules Hetzel (Chartres, 1814-Montecarlo, 1886), celeberrimo soprattutto per il sodalizio con Verne, di cui stampò in fantasmagoriche vesti editoriali i Voyages extraordinaires. (ausführlich zu Inhalt und Wirkung). - Zweite deutschsprachige und erste umfangreich illustrierte Ausgabe des Jugendbuchklassikers. Pfarrer Johann David Wyss (1743 - 1818) hatte 1792 damit begonnen, seinen vier Söhnen eine an der eigenen Familie orientierte "Robinsonade" zu erzählen: Ein Schweizer Pfarrer strandet mit Frau und vier Söhnen auf einer einsamen Insel ("Neu-Schweizerland") und richtet sich dort häuslich ein. Die Rahmenhandlung diente Wyss zu umfangreicher sittlicher und besonders auch praktischer Belehrung seiner Söhne. Erst in jüngerer Zeit wurde beachtet, dass es sich durchaus auch um eine politische Utopie handelt, in der Wyss, beeinflusst durch Schnabels "Insel Felsenburg" und vor dem Hintergrund der politischen Zeitereignisse, eine ideale, demokratische Schweiz entwirft. Die Geschichte gelang so gut, dass der zweitälteste der Söhne, Johann Rudolf, 1812 mit der Veröffentlichung (mit Zustimmung des Vaters unter seinem Namen) begann. Erst 1827 lag das Werk in vier Bänden und mit nur wenigen Illustrationen versehen vollständig vor. Diesem Mangel half man durch die vorliegende Ausgabe ab, indem man die Illustrationen einer kurz zuvor (1840) erschienenen französischen Ausgabe übernahm. - Durchgängig teils auch stärker stockfleckig, eine Seite (S. 259/60) mit ca. 10 cm langem Einriss (kein Textverlust).…
