Trade paperback. Condition: Good. First Printing [Stated]. 78, [2] pages. Illustrations. Photo Credits. Some page soiling noted. Name in ink on title page. Cover has some wear and soiling. Includes: Stations: A Man-Made Resource and Historical Background: An Age of Steam, Steel and Exploitation. Early guide to the preservation and restoration of railroad stations. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos showing both the interiors and exteriors of stations all across the country as well as some being torn down. The Educational Facilities Laboratories (EFL), an independent research organization established by the Ford Foundation, opened in 1958. Its purpose was to help schools and colleges maximize the quality and utility of their facilities, stimulate research, and disseminate information useful to those who select sites, plan, design, construct, modernize, equip, and finance educational structures. Over its 28-year existence, EFL spurred innovation in school architecture by sponsoring research projects and programs, holding conferences, and awarding grants to school districts, colleges, and nonprofit organizations. Committed to spreading the word of such advancement, EFL distributed widely copies of its publications on research, experimentation, and emerging trends. EFL carried on an active publishing program, following its charter for the "dissemination of knowledge regarding educational facilities." It recognized that efforts to produce superior facilities and equipment for education would have little impact if such developments were not communicated to architects, educators, governing boards, and the public. Architect William Brubaker described school construction in the 1960s as dominated by the research and extension activities of EFL. He attributed the exciting partnership between it and the schools as having an impact on school design nationwide and in Canada. "Thousands of educators, planners, engineers, and architects were influenced by EFL, and that influence continues today". Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates' (HHPA) was an internationally recognized American architecture firm with offices in New York and Los Angeles. Established by Hugh Hardy, Malcolm Holzman and Norman Pfeiffer in 1967 in New York, HHPA was noted for its innovative public buildings, and received over 100 national design awards, including the American Institute of Architects' Architecture Firm Award in 1981. After the firm disbanded in August 2004, each of the partners established a successor firm.

Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - For those that have mastered the basics of memoir and wish to probe this brand of creative nonfiction further, Writing the Radical Memoir uses salient theories about memory and the self to challenge assumptions about how we remember and tell the truth of our lives when we write about it. Innovative in approach and making new critical ideas accessible, each chapter maps out the key principles of such writers as Barthes, Lacan, Derrida, Lewis Mehl-Madrona, Philippe Le Jeune and Joseph Campbell, invokes literary examples to show how other writers have mastered the idea before reflecting on how you can practically apply the theory to your writing. With original exercises and prompts for further reading that bridge the gap between the theoretical and how it might be put into practice, the book is attentive to the multiple facets of the genre of nonfiction writing generally, covering such topics as: The writer/ reader contract How to embark on a thematic/ symbolic exploration of themes and incidents in your life How neuro-scientific theory can inform our understanding of memory and recall and what happens to our memories when we remember them Character development and the ethics of writing about real people How constructing your identity in memoir offers a chance to push back against traditional structures That memoir might not be preservation of your past but a process of self-erasure How J. M. Coetzee's Autrebiography trilogy challenges traditional biographyBy bringing together lived experience, post-structuralist and postmodernist theories, praxis and artistic vision as a unique approach to writing memoir, this book encourages you to think the self, how it is portrayed, created, erased and made strange through the process of writing and remembering.

Frame. Condition: Near fine. Signed Letter. Wood frame, beige matte, measures 19" x 12". Photograph of Lindbergh mounted opposite the letter. Not examined outside of the frame. Full letter reads: "Scotts Cove / Darien, Conn. / Feb. 1, 1958 / Dear Dr. Smith: I enclose a check for one thousand dollars as a contribution to the Charles H. Land Fund, to be used in connection with the projects Dr. L. Laszlo Schwartz is carrying on under this fund./ With best wishes, Charles A. Lindbergh." Lindbergh hoped to finance a biography of his grandfather, Dr. Charles H. Land, with the help of dental historian, Dr. L. Laszlo Schwartz. By 1960, it was clear to Lindbergh and Schwartz that publishers were not interested in a full-length biography. The research into Dr. Land resulted in numerous articles in the Journal of American College Dentists, but not a full-length biography. The letter was addressed to Dr. Gilbert P. Smith, the dean of the Columbia Dental School. Typed letter signed by Charles A. Lindbergh, enclosing a $1,000 contribution to the Charles H. Land Fund in support of research by Dr. L. Laszlo Schwartz. Schwartz was writing a biography of Dr. Charles H. Land, Lindbergh's maternal grandfather and t (illustrator). Signed.
