Original Cloth. Condition: Good. First Edition. A book containing nine essays on the scope and significance of individual subjects at the University of Cambridge. The entry on chemistry was written by C.P. Snow. The boards have some patches of surface discolouration and one towards the base of the spine may be where a label was…once present so the book might have been in some kind of library. Very heavy brown spotting to the fore edges and to a lesser extent to the bottom edges. The endpapers are browned and the front free endpaper has the bookplate of Anthony Edwards, Life Fellow of Gonville & Caius College and retired Professor of Biometry at the University of Cambridge. This book was part of his collection of Cambridge books which was a reflection of his keen and active interest in the governance of the Collegiate University. Someone has written a note in pencil at the top of the front free endpaper and there are a number of notes in pencil to the rear free endpaper. There is some spotting to the pages at the front and back of the book and there is some browning to the pages with spots in several places through the book but the pages are otherwise generally clean and unmarked. No jacket. First printing.
