Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the construction, development, and historical significance of Gloucester Cathedral in England. Beyond a description of its architectural details and design, such as its Norman origins and later Gothic additions, the author provides historical context, beginning with its foundation as a monastery in the 7th century. The book explores how the Cathedral became an essential part of its surrounding community, how it survived fires, political unrest, and the tumultuous events of English history, including the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII. The author also discusses the Cathedral's role as a pilgrimage destination because of the supposed discovery of Edward II's body within its walls. The book concludes by arguing that Gloucester Cathedral is not only one of the nation's most impressive buildings but is also integral to the history of England, especially as it pertains to the relationship between the church and the monarchy. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
