Der Mediziner Wilhelm Schallmayer (1857-1919) studierte Rechtswissenschaften und Philosophie, dann Medizin, wurde 1886 in München promoviert und… setzte seine Ausbildung für Urologie und Venerologie in Wien, Leipzig und Dresden fort, bevor er sich in Düsseldorf niederließ. Seit 1894 war Schallmayer als Schiffsarzt in Ostasien tätig und lebte dann in München, später in Krailling. Er war ein führender Vertreter des Sozialdarwinismus und der darauf basierenden Eugenik. Sein Werk Vererbung und Auslese im Lebenslauf der Völker (1903) galt als programmatische Grundlage der Rassenhygiene im nationalsozialistischen Deutschland. Le médecin William Sound Mayer (1857-1919) a étudié le droit et la philosophie, puis la médecine, a reçu son doctorat en 1886 à Munich et a poursuivi sa formation en urologie et syphiligraphie à Vienne, Leipzig et Dresde, avant de s'installer à Düsseldorf. Depuis 1894 Schallmayer a travaillé comme chirurgien du navire en Asie de l'Est et a ensuite vécu à Munich et plus tard dans Krailling. Il a été un des principaux promoteurs du darwinisme social et de l'eugénisme sur cette base. Cet ouvrage a été considéré comme une base programmatique de l'eugénisme dans l'Allemagne nazie.
