Condition: Fine. First, Limited Edition. Royal 8vo, 9 3/8 x 6 1/4 inches (236 x 160 mm), 29 pp. Machine set in 12-point Monotype Caslon and printed on Zerkall Ingres cream laid paper. Three lithographic reproductions of photographs, tipped-in, the one on the frontispiece showing the author, age 7, with his father at Sandywell Park. Sewn into overlapping Strathmore Artlaid Tan paper covers with a Zerkall Silurian paper wrapper printed in two shades of brown, with a composite line-block reproduction of fourteen drawings by Frank Berry on the front. One of 350 copies, signed on the colophon by Frank Berry. [Butcher 96]. A charming autobiographical account of a Cotswold woodworking apprenticeship, Bench, Saw & Plane offers Frank Berry's personal recollections of traditional craftsmanship, rural life, and the skills passed down through generations of craftsmen. Illustrated with photographs and Berry's own drawings, the book provides an intimate portrait of a disappearing world of handwork and local trades. A beautifully produced Whittington Press publication, limited to 350 copies and signed by the author, it is an appealing addition to collections of Cotswold history, craftsmanship, and fine press books.
