Marbled endpapers. Front hinge of Volume I starting, text block sound. Top edge gilt. Occasional toning throughout, a few extraneous pencil marks. (Sabin 763…97). This scarce work by John Sanderson was first printed in the United States in 1838, with the title "Sketches Of Paris: In Familiar Letters to His Friends by An American Gentleman." It was published by E.L. Carey of Philadelphia. It is a collection of letters and travel reflections of a teacher and writer, John Sanderson, who traveled specifically to Havre and Paris. The work was later translated into French by Jules Janin. (Sabin 76405). The first English edition of The American In Paris by John Sanderson, originally titled "Sketches Of Paris," when published in Philadelphia in 1838. (illustrator).
