Kussen gemaakt van brons, zilver, porselein, hout, zijde, terracotta, marmer, staal, neon en zelfs van een bureaulamp. Uit dit overzicht blijkt dat de kus een inspirerende en veelbetekenende daad is. Afbeeldingen van de kus zijn er al sinds de Etrusken en de Grieken. Kunstenaars als Picasso, Rodin en Klimt hebben zelfs complete series gemaakt, in een poging om hun volmaakte kus voor de eeuwigheid vast te leggen. Het accent van De Kus in de Kunst ligt op het tonen van de diversiteit in afbeeldingen van de kus in de kunst door de eeuwen heen.
