Soft cover. Condition: Poor. 1st Edition. Front cover & title page partly worn away, otherwise internally VG. 172 pages : 25 cm. Wukari and Takum, two dialects of Jukun, are studied in this text, intended for both the trained linguist and the less trained student. The Jukun tribe is estimated to number 25,000 people living in th…e Benue River sections of Nigeria. Although the study is not intended to be comparative, some statements are included that indicate the patterned difference between the two dialects. The following topics are treated in detail: (1) phonology; (2) nouns and noun phrases; (3) verbs, verb phrases and pronouns; (4) attributives; and (5) miscellaneous morphemes and constructions. In each section, explanations are given in English, and examples are provided in both dialects with their English equivalents. Following this discussion, nine texts in Takum with interlinear English translations are recorded. Finally, a combined vocabulary of the two dialects is presented in such a way that the phonemic equivalents in both dialects are readily available to students of either dialect.
