Front and back book board clean. Professor Martyn Webb and his wife Audrey confess that when they commenced researching material for a book entitled originally " Onslow - "A town in two places" they had no conception of the breadth and diversity of the subject. In fact it took seven years to complete their research and as they say in their preface this book finally evolved as being about Australia which lived lived and breadth under the traditions of the British Empire. It defines not so much a period which ended with the fail of Singapore in 1942 but a precise set of culture economics, political and social conditions which , when take together stimulated quite ordinary people to thrust themselves boldly into the harsh and forgiving lands of Ashburton and the North west to become the new breed of Australian, the Nor-Western. The contributions of the Aborigines as a remarkable people is acknowledged , as fully as time would permit in dealing with a subject so complex. This book book is thus about an amaigam of a place, a period and a people. It is fascinating photographs and is book no historian can overlook.
