Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Former Special Branch officer John Warwicker gives the inside story of the six years he spent in charge of security at 10 Downing Street, tracking one of the most turbulent periods in modern British politics. From 197479, when the threat of the Cold War and the IRA was ever present, the targets w…ho Warwicker protected daily, both at home and overseas, were Prime Ministers Wilson, Callaghan and Thatcher. More than thirty years on since Warwicker left his post, his insightful memoir, based not only on personal memories and experience, but often also from contemporaneous notes, includes a fascinating and frank insight into the day-to-day operations at Downing Street and Chequers and the eccentric cast of characters within. Despite the constant threat of terrorism that was prevalent at the time, there is a touch of Yes, Prime Minister that runs through the narrative, which adds a surprisingly amusing element to this revelatory book. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. 'A carefully researched book on a long-neglected subject which fills a major gap in our Second World War knowledge' - Norman Longmate, author of If Britain Had Fallen British Secret Intelligence Service officers and others in the War Office were never convinced that appeasement would prevent a Na…zi invasion. Defying high-level opposition, they quietly worked instead on preemptive 'Last Ditch' survival plans. These included a secret resistance network known as the GHQ Auxiliary Units. It was the only one in Europe prepared in advance of an enemy assault. The Auxunits were civilian 'stay-behinds'. One section worked as Patrols, usually consisting of half-a-dozen men in hidden underground operational bases. They were hurriedly selected immediately after the Dunkirk evacuation then trained and equipped with firearms, explosives and booby-traps. Instructed to 'stay-behind' underground as the enemy passed over, they were then to emerge each night to commit mayhem for as long as they could stay alive. Others, men and women, would remain behind above ground, to spy on the enemy and communicate intelligence to the Defence Force by a covert radio network. These Units are still effectively secret and this is the most comprehensive history published to date. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Brossura. Condition: nuovo. Inspired by ancient Japanese ukiyo-e artists and a polymath's myriad references, John Warwicker has for over 10 years been one of the most original thinkers in the design and creative industries. A founding member of Tomato, the innovative London design collective, he established an international repu…tation in the 1990s and has been formative in shaping popular media. The Floating World: Ukiyo-e is the first monograph on Warwicker's work. Rather than simply collect old work from commercial commissions and personal projects, Warwicker has written and designed an extensive, original book which only occasionally references prior work. He sets out to document his experiences in an authentic voice, mining the themes, ideas, histories, and memories which have informed and influenced him over the past 10 years. The result is a sophisticated and yet elegiac book constructed from his critical writings, photographs, drawings, films, prints, typography, poetry, and prose. Every text page is an original artwork, delicately constructed in layers of typography, and the interwoven illustrations confirm Warwicker as an innovative visual artist. CONDITION: New, not sealed.
