First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Evanston, IL: Clark Publishing Company, 1954 (copyright is dated 1953 for this January 1954 issue). The January, 1954 issue of Fate Magazine (issue no. 46) in Raymond A. Palmer's now-legendary paranormal-reporting non-fiction enterprise, which began with, in its first issue, Kenneth Arnold's cover account of flying crescents which "skipped like saucers across a pond", an event which, for whatever reason, kicked off the modern era of UFO events. After that, Fate introduced countless events which remain, to this day, fodder for paranormal documentaries and investigation. 12mo, illustrated perfect-bound wraps, 130 pp. A Fine - yes, Fine - copy (see scans), which is virtually unheard of in this fragile series. Highest Grade, particularly for a periodical which often shows substantial wear from use. See scans. This issue features articles on the Tahitian Fire Walk; Tea Leaves; Rosa Menichelli; an ancient Greek Ghost; a haunted house; Past Lives; a Near-Death Experience; Psychokinesis; Psychic Research; William Blake; Attila von Sealay; and of course much else, including the standard Departments, always engrossing in themselves. Interior art and photography is largely uncredited. A piece of paranormal history, and an example of a unique branch of Americana, in very highly collectible condition. l48n.

Mass Market Paperback. Condition: Fine. Robert (Cover Design) Sutter (illustrator). First Thus. This is truly a single source encyclopedic guide to all facts about the ancient world. It is a ready reference to myths and legends, gods and goddesses, leaders and battles, places and dates as well as identifying top mid-20th century scholars and reflecting then known archaeological findings. xxi + 319pp. Sir William Smith (1813-1893) was an English lexicographer. Smith published the first of several school dictionaries in 1850, and in 1853 began the Principia series, which marked an advance in the teaching of Greek and Latin. Then came the Student's Manuals of History and Literature, of which the English literature volume went into 13 editions. Edward Henry Blakeney (1869-1955) was an English educator, classical scholar and poet. As well as several volumes of poetry, he published editions and translations of classical Latin and Greek texts. John Warrington has little or no biographic information available. It appears he provided many translations for the Every Man's Classics Paperback series. Since both Smith and Blakeney were dead long before this book was published in 1958, Warrington and E. P. Dutton editors were responsible to bring this book to completion. Paperback book is remarkably well preserved and has been carefully stored and used. No defined reading creases, interior is tight, clean and unmarked. Copyright 1958. Printed in U.S.A. Promoted as "A Dutton Paperback." No edition or print-run info found. Dutton paperback catalog: D 12. No ISBN nor LCCN. MSR = US $1.45.
