Andy Warhol ruffled the concepts of the museum as a construction of quality and selected items from the storage which had never been viewed before as they were considered mediocre or copies or damaged. This project was the idea of Dominique de Menil, Director of the Museum who writes in his introduction "For what is beautiful to the artist, becomes beautiful. What is poetical to the poet, becomes poetical. So let's visit museums with poets and artists." De Menil invited Warhol as a 'Pop Artist' to 'relook at the collection with his eyes' which resulted in what is still one of the most interesting experiments in museumology. David Bourdon records the process of the making of the show in detail, and documents the installation process. An exhibition selected from the storage vaults of the Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design. The exhibition began at the Institute for the Arts, Rice University, Houston TX 29 October, 1969-4 January 1970, The Isaac Delgado Museum, New Orleans LA 17 January-15 February 1970 and ending with the Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design, Providence RI 23 April-30 June 1970.
