Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the history of American whaling from its humble beginnings as a shore industry carried out in small boats to a global enterprise involving large ships and crews. It delves into the origins of whaling in Europe, tracing its development from the medieval period through the rise of the Dutch and English industries. The author provides a comprehensive examination of the social and economic factors that shaped the whaling industry in the American colonies, focusing on the technological advancements, market forces, and geopolitical events that influenced its growth and decline. The book presents a detailed account of the industry's golden age, marked by the expansion of whaling fleets into the Pacific Ocean and the development of new techniques for capturing and processing whales. It also sheds light on the industry's eventual decline due to changes in technology, environmental factors, and economic conditions. This book offers a fascinating and informative account of the American whaling industry, providing valuable insights into its historical significance and the role it played in shaping the economic and social fabric of the United States. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
