Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, the culmination of author's investigations into the House Sparrow across North America, shares results of questionnaires and testimonies from correspondents nationwide. From the initial eight-pair introduction to Brooklyn in 1850, this book unveils the species' rapid spread and increase through the country. It further categorizes and summarizes the evidence provided by the author's circulars, which requested recipients to share their experiences with the species across various locations and years in relation to: the extent of its distribution and increase; its general behavior and habits; its effects on trees, shrubs, gardens, vineyards, grain fields, buildings, and other structures; and its relations with native birds, and mammals. The author sought to understand the good and harm caused by the House Sparrow, introducing the results and conclusions drawn from the gathered testimonies, in the hope that all friends of the Sparrow will accept their verdict as just or unjust. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
