The book's main focus is on tracing the history of the Christian Church through time, culminating in the end times and the Second Coming of Christ. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. GENERAL HISTORY OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH BY SIG. PASTORINI 1834 ALL LEATHER. I am very pleased to be able to offer a lovely copy of a book, published in a pseudonym for the actual Author but with his portrait as Frontispiece. The book is titled: The General History of the Christian Church from Her Birth to Her Final Triumphant State in Heaven: Chiefly Deduced from the Apocalypse of St. John, the Apostle and Evangelist, by Sig. Pastorini. Why use the pseudonym when on the page opposite is the Frontispiece with an engraved portrait of the Rev. Charles Walmesley (the actual Author)? This small leather-bound book (4 ¾ x 7 ¼ inches, 396 pages) was published by John Doyle of New York, dated 1834 and the Second American Edition (so stated on the title page). This book is bound in full calf leather with a brown & gilt leather title label on the spine. The frontispiece mentioned above is the only illustration I found in the book. Condition: This book is in very good condition considering its age and nature. The leather covers are rubbed and bumped but not too badly (please see the photos). The spine leather appears dry, brittle and cracked, something which includes the leather label. It is not, however, actually flaking and could be treated. Inside, the book shows plenty of toning and foxing and light soiling consistent with its age but nothing that obscures or blurs the legibility of the text. The only mark I found is a penciled name on the rear endpaper. The hinges are partially cracked but the binding seems tight, and sound and the gutters are not split and the covers firmly affixed. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
