The…two 'now ready' are The Sea at Dauphin by Derek Walcott 'A tragedy of fisher folk in St. Louis' and this play The Creatures 'A fantasy in a Jamaican rural setting.' Cicely Waite-Smith (1910 - 1978) was a playwright and short story writer born in Canada. Her father was African and her mother was British. She received her education throughout Europe, mainly in England, Switzerland and France. She started her theatrical career as an actress but left acting after marrying Frank Waite-Smith, a theatre director originally from Jamaica. He was also a key figure in the Little Theatre Movement in Kingston. They moved to Jamaica shortly after marrying and it is here that she began working as a playwright. She specialized in writing one act plays and was passionate about creating work specifically for Jamaican audiences. She often included traditional Jamaican superstitions and beliefs in her work Minor wear, very slight marks, slight creasing at centre else VG.
