Hardcover, bound in brown cloth titled in gilt on the front cover and the spine and with a vignette in gilt on the front cover. The covers are rubbed and bumped. 256 pages. The text block is cracked on a couple of occasions. There is some minor damp staining to the front edge of the front endpaper and small ink stains to the bottom edge of pages 159-160. Good. First edition. Inscribed by the editor John W. Garvin on the front endpaper, "To Dear Cousin Kitty & Family, With the love and best wishes of John W. Garvin. New Year's, 1919". This 1918 work includes the first appearance in book form of John McCrae's poem "In Flanders Fields" on page 147, prior to its subsequent publication in the collection of John McCrae's poems titled "In Flanders Fields and Other Poems" which was published in 1919.

In long envelope that may be original, now soiled with tears. Poem is loosening from backing. Likely printed in 1917 since it doesn't mention McCrae's death in 1918. Likely printed by Southam Press, although this copy has no printer's name.
